ICL has made progress on both fronts. The Company is implementing industry 4.0, using AI, drones and other new technologies to improve its operational performance. The Company has significantly reduced its air emissions and carbon footprint over the last few years. It is also developing new products, such as BromoQuel™ which helps to reduce potential hazards and environmental impact when working with Bromine (one of ICL’s main resource materials).
The SDGs serve as guiding principles in ICL’s quest for new products. This is especially true for SDG 2 – Zero Hunger. ICL has a part to play in ensuring global food security, from growing food with advanced fertilizers to producing alternative proteins and products that preserve food. Such solutions include controlled release and other high performance fertilizers that are integrated with sophisticated irrigation technology and precision agriculture. A good example is ICL’s Polysulphate, an organic high-quality fertilizer with a low environmental footprint. ICL is the world’s first and sole supplier of Polysulphate.
The Company’s systematic approach is not solely in the area of fertilizers. ICL is seeking to support and develop products for new clean, environmentally friendly initiatives, such as the unique chemistry required for grid-scale renewable energy storage and various circular economy solutions that are being explored by leveraging global partnerships.
ICL’s products are also used by the food, pharma and personal care industries. For Example, ICL produces Magnesium Oxides, Hydroxides and Carbonates that are used in the production of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulations in the form of tablets, powders and liquid suspensions. They are also used in the production of magnesium salts such as citrate, stearate, amino-acid chelates and lactate for pharma and nutra purposes. In addition, recently developed a new product line for the personal care industry. Its new CareMagⓇ product line is used in deodorants and baby skin care products. It is a natural, non-toxic and hypoallergenic raw material based on magnesium from Dead Sea salt.
Significant effort is also being made to improve every aspect of the life cycle of ICL products, from environmental planning during the product development phase through efficient logistics and training and support of business partners and end users. These include local distributors, farmers, suppliers and others that may have a significant impact on the environmental impact and performance of ICL products.
ICL has also developed SAFR®, a systematic framework to allow clients to assess various flame retardants using a scientific-based approach to select the appropriate product.
